This article ‘Perth turnaround difficult; not impossible‘ on The Cricket Magazine assesses England’s chances of a seemingly unlikely comeback against Australia in the 3rd Ashes test.
2-0 down in the series already, Alastair Cook and his men face the test of their careers.
Following the 1st defeat against Australia, much aided by two batting collapses (one spectacular, other still monumental), England paceman Tim Bresnan is looking to return to the squad for the 2nd test in Adelaide.
He strengthened the bid by picking up 4 wickets against Queensland Second XI to continue his return from a stress fracture which has kept him out of the England side since the 4th Ashes test earlier this summer.
Steven Finn and former Ireland international Boyd Rankin are also vying for the third seamer’s spot in another practice match for the England contingency in Alice Springs.
There’s also a batting slot to stake a claim for after Jonathan Trott’s withdrawal from the tour because of a stress related illness.
The prime candidates, Jonny Bairstow, Gary Ballance, and Ben Stokes are in the side for this 2 day game against the Chairman’s XI.
