Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers expressed disbelief David Moyes labelled his Manchester United team underdogs for the visit of Liverpool.

And Rodgers added insult to injury when he said: ‘I was probably surprised when I heard we were supposedly coming to Old Trafford as favourites.

‘I would never say that at Liverpool – even if I was bottom of the league.’

But Moyes said of his pronouncement: ‘I just thought Liverpool were above us in the league and playing well, and I thought any average person would have said the same thing.’

Two Steven Gerrard penalties and a Luis Suarez strike earned the visitors the win. And Moyes was aggrieved United did not have a spot-kick themselves.
